The ‘Serre Chevalier Granfondo’ is now in its 21st year. We owe this ongoing success to our partners, whom we must thank, especially the Serre Chevalier valley and its four communes: St Chaffrey, La Salle les Alpes, Le Monêtier les Bains and Briançon. This cycling event requires the involvement of 280 volunteers for several days… Over 20 years these volunteers have created a major fixture in the summer calendar of the Briançon region. We offer our sincere thanks to all the volunteers who will once again be giving up their time over a weekend in July to run the 2018 event.
The theme of this year’s Serre Chevalier Granfondo, to take place on Sunday 15 July, is the natural splendour of the Alps. For this new meet, the organisers propose previously unseen and gorgeous itineraries through the Clarée and Susa valleys, legendary mountain passes such as the Echelle, Sestriere, Montgenèvre and, most importantly, the fabled Colle delle Finestre. This last mountain pass will be the ‘Cima Coppi’ of the 2018 Giro d’Italia, its highest point being 2178m above sea level and the last nine kilometres unsurfaced.
Participants will have the choice between three mountain routes on roads closed to traffic. Three routes so that everyone can participate in this 21st event at their own level… The itineraries combine the technical challenges of mountain terrain with the beauty of the landscapes of France’s Hautes-Alpes and Italy’s Piedmont region. We look forward to seeing you on Sunday 15 July 2018 in the Briançon region to share in the fun of the race and to savour the pleasure of proving your stamina and testing yourself to your limits.
